History

Paper bead rolling was a traditional craft, which was popular at the turn of the 19th century.

With a desire to create decorative items that would enhance their homes, and give them a practical pastime, Victorian ladies used scraps of wall paper to hand roll beads, the beads were then strung onto long pieces of yarn, which once completed were hung up to create curtains, used to separate rooms.

In recreating this craft I feel that I am helping to preserve a small piece of our rich cultural past by giving a Victorian craft a modern twist.

I found this amazing antique paper bead necklace in an antiques market in Bath.
