Decoupage

Decoupage means literally the cutting out of shapes and images from paper. It became popular in France in 18th century and by the 19th century the art of decoupage had spread across Europe, where [mainly German] companies had begun to produce 'scraps'.
These were sheets of small coloured images that were often embossed and die cut. The scraps became an integral part of the art of Decoupage. Adults and children alike used them to decorate furniture and household objects.

There are many different ways to Decoupage and each artist has their own technique and style.
At Jo Verity Designs we take our inspirational style from the Victorians and the technique that they used to cover room screens, boxes and larger items.
This comprises of covering items in their entirety by overlapping several layers of images. The products are then finished with up to 25 coats of varnish to give a smooth surface.
Most of the items we decoupage are old and unwanted. We lovingly restore them and re- invent and recycle, giving them a new lease of life.
We love to use traditional Victorian and vintage inspired images on our work.
Each piece is unique and is an individual work of art.
We are happy to work on commissions using specific images and can incorporate your own images and photos into designs.
